Non-profit organizations are not what most people think. There are many people who believe that no money is put into a non-profit organization, But that is simply not true. A non-profit organization can be seen as a company just like any other. There are utilities that must be paid, Employee salaries, And other business expenses. Although most of these companies claim to have candid intentions, It is not always so. Certain individuals would like to set their own salary while claiming to help others and create a non-profit organization to achieve this goal.
Therefore, When other people decide to help non-profit organizations, They should first conduct plenty of research on this organization. More often than not most people find that the charity they are donating to does not use anywhere near the full amount of money towards their noted cause. This is obvious because part of the money you donate must go towards the overhead of the company, Including salaries, And marketing. Therefore, Leaving a small percentage for the people in need.
Although some non-profit organizations function in this manner, It does not mean that they all do. A credible non-profit organization should try to maintain the lowest overhead possible. This is achieved not by purchasing what they want, But what they need. With a low overhead, More money can be used for the primary cause of that organization.
Managing a non-profit organization does not come without its troubles. Just like any business, Money must be put in for it to work. Certain permits and licenses may be required by the organization. All of which cost money. Normally, A sponsor covers all the costs put into starting a non-profit organization. This is assuming of course that you are not sponsoring your own organization.
Ultimately, The goal of each non-profit organization should be to create a mission statement and follow it to the tee. Also, While managing this organization, It should be manager’s primary objective to never deviate from this mission statement. An example of a properly established non-profit organization would be your local animal shelter.
Although all local animal shelters are government funded, Almost all the employees who work there are volunteers. This of course will naturally lower the overhead of this organization and ensures that the employees are truly interested in carrying out the tasks required of them. Being volunteers’ Shows that they do not care for the money, But for the sake of the animals themselves. Thus, A non-profit organization that is ran by volunteers will generally have more positive results.
